| Consulting Beliefs

The number one thing that I base my whole consulting business on, is that the customers needs come first. Consulting is not a competition to be the best, the nicest, the most popular. To me, it is all about being cost effective and future thought oriented. I am not in this field to make the most money I can from a customer, because I understand that at some point, if I cost that customer a ton of money, then in the long run, they won't be able to afford me anyway. That's not good for either party involed.

For example, "Client A" has a computer that is 4 years old and running very slow. After assessing the issue and finding out that the computer is infested with viruses, the right way to fix the issue is to reformat that PC. This is the only tried and true way of completely removing and fixing viruses. Virus removal only lengthens the time until the next virus invites itself in. So, with the thought of the PC being 4 years old and knowing that PCs generally last about 3-5 years before they usually die, I would think of the client first. Yes, I could remove the virus and have it happen again and know that I'll be called back, or I could format the PC and reinstall the operating system, but that leaves two other paths of disaster for that PC. I could reformat the PC and 2 weeks later the PC shorts out and dies. That client is now 4 hours in the hole, plus time for me to install a confiure a new one. I could also just remove the existing virus, but the way the virus programmers are getting, there could be more pieces of that virus that are more deeplly rooted within the operating system than any technician can find, thus inviting more pieces of it back in and leaving that PC infested again a few days later. Here again, "Client A" is out at least 2-3 hours of removal time, plus time to reformat, or install a new PC and configure it.

With that thought in mind, this is why I usually will recommend replacing a PC that is 3 or more years old. Yes, this will cost "Client A" the cost of the PC, but they will also get the manufacturers warranty with it and only spend about 2 hours (time will varey per clients needs) of configuration and setup. That client also now has the peace of mind of knowing that they have a new PC with new hardware that will last longer than a few weeks after the fix.

With all of that in mind, rest assured that I will always care for my customers with the same respect that I give everyone, and with the same caring and understanding that each client deserves.
